Pricing 9 min readUpdated August 2026

A professional business website in India typically costs Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 50,000. E-commerce sites run Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 3,00,000, and custom web applications start around Rs. 2,00,000 and rise with complexity. The price depends far more on scope and integrations than on the number of pages.

“How much does a website cost?” is the hardest question to answer honestly, because the word website covers a five-page brochure site and a booking platform handling thousands of transactions. Both are websites. They are not the same job.

This guide gives you the real ranges we see in the Indian market, explains what actually moves the number, and shows where budgets get wasted. We build these sites for a living, so we have an obvious interest here — we have tried to write the guide we would want to read before spending our own money.

What a website costs in India: the ranges

These are realistic 2026 market ranges for work done by a competent agency or experienced freelancer in India. Prices below the bottom of each range usually mean a template with little customisation.

Typical website development cost ranges in India by project type
Type of websiteTypical cost (INR)Typical timeline
Landing page (single page)Rs. 8,000 – 20,0003–7 days
Small business website (5–10 pages)Rs. 15,000 – 50,0002–4 weeks
Corporate website (10–30 pages)Rs. 50,000 – 1,50,0004–8 weeks
E-commerce storeRs. 50,000 – 3,00,0006–12 weeks
Custom web applicationRs. 2,00,000 – 10,00,000+3–9 months

What actually drives the price?

Page count is the weakest predictor of cost. These six factors matter far more:

1. Custom design versus a theme

A purchased theme lightly adjusted to your brand is the cheapest route and can look perfectly professional. A custom design — wireframes, original layouts, a design system — typically adds Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 depending on depth. Custom is worth it when your brand is a differentiator or your user journey is unusual.

2. Number of unique page templates

Twenty pages built from four templates cost far less than eight pages that are all bespoke. When you get a quote, ask how many unique templates are included, not how many pages.

3. Integrations

Every external system adds cost: payment gateways, CRMs, ERP or inventory systems, booking engines, shipping APIs, WhatsApp and SMS. A single straightforward payment gateway integration is modest; connecting a live inventory system is a project of its own.

4. Content and images

This is the most commonly forgotten line item. If you supply finished copy and photos, you save money. If the agency writes your content and sources or shoots imagery, expect meaningful additional cost — and a better result, because most sites underperform on content, not code.

5. SEO foundation

Technical SEO done at build time — clean semantic markup, fast loading, correct meta tags, structured data, an XML sitemap — costs very little extra. Retrofitting it later costs a great deal more. Insist it is included.

6. Support after launch

Some quotes include 30 to 90 days of post-launch support; some include none. This difference alone can explain why two quotes for “the same” site differ by tens of thousands of rupees.

What are the ongoing costs?

A website is not a one-time purchase. Plan for these recurring items:

Recurring annual website costs in India
ItemTypical annual cost (INR)Notes
Domain nameRs. 800 – 1,500More for premium or .in/.com variants
Shared hostingRs. 3,000 – 8,000Fine for most business sites
VPS hostingRs. 12,000 – 40,000For higher traffic or web apps
SSL certificateFree – Rs. 5,000Free Let's Encrypt is fine for most sites
Maintenance planRs. 24,000 – 1,20,000Updates, backups, security, small changes

Where website budgets get wasted

  • Paying for pages nobody reads. A 30-page site where six pages get all the traffic is 24 pages of wasted build and maintenance.
  • Custom design on a standard journey. If your site is “learn about us, then enquire”, a good theme does that well.
  • Building features before you have users. Launch the core, then invest based on what people actually do.
  • Skipping the SEO foundation to save a little. The cheapest SEO work is the work done during the build.
  • No handover. If you cannot edit your own content or do not hold your own hosting credentials, every trivial change becomes a paid request.

Does location change the price?

Yes, and more than most buyers expect. The same brochure site quoted in Bangalore, Delhi and a tier-two city can differ by a factor of two, and almost none of that gap is quality — it is salaries, office overheads and what the local market will bear.

Indicative price variation by location for the same business website
Where the vendor isIndicative range, same briefWhat you are paying for
Bangalore, Mumbai, GurugramRs. 60,000 – 2,50,000Deeper specialist benches, higher overheads
Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, DelhiRs. 40,000 – 1,50,000Broad mid-market, most competitive tier
Tier-two citiesRs. 20,000 – 80,000Lower overheads, smaller teams

Two things matter more than the city on the invoice. The first is whether the team has built something genuinely like your project before. The second is whether you can get a straight answer from a named person when something breaks — which is about how a company works, not where it sits. Remote delivery is now normal across the whole market, so treat location as a pricing signal rather than a shortlist filter.

What the cheapest quotes actually buy

Websites are advertised in India from around Rs. 5,000, and it is worth being precise about what that number represents rather than dismissing it. At that price you are almost always getting a stock theme with your logo and text dropped in, on shared hosting, with no custom design work, no content writing, no technical SEO and no support after handover.

For some businesses that is a perfectly rational purchase. If you need a presence so that people who already know your name can find your phone number, a Rs. 10,000 template site does that job and there is no sense paying five times more for it.

It stops being rational when the site is supposed to generate business. The three things that usually turn out to be missing are the ones that matter for that: no technical SEO foundation, so the site never ranks; no analytics, so nobody can tell whether it works; and no access to your own hosting, so every change is a paid request. Those are also the three cheapest things to include during a build and among the most expensive to retrofit.

A worked example

Take one real brief — a manufacturing business wanting eight pages, an enquiry form, a product catalogue and a WhatsApp button — and price it three ways:

  • Around Rs. 25,000. Purchased theme, light colour and font customisation, you supply all copy and photographs, basic contact form, no analytics beyond a tracking snippet. Live in about three weeks.
  • Around Rs. 75,000. Custom design on three or four templates, a searchable product catalogue, WhatsApp and enquiry routing, technical SEO at build time, a CMS your team can edit, three months of support. Six to eight weeks.
  • Around Rs. 2,00,000. The above plus original photography and copywriting, ERP or CRM integration so enquiries land where sales already work, multilingual content, and a measurement setup that reports which pages produce enquiries. Three to four months.

The jump from the first to the second is mostly design and ownership. The jump from the second to the third is mostly integration and measurement — and that is the jump worth making only when you already know the site produces enquiries worth routing.

How to compare quotes fairly

When two quotes differ wildly, they are almost never quoting the same work. Ask every vendor these questions and the gap usually explains itself:

  1. How many unique page templates are included?
  2. Is the design custom, or a customised theme?
  3. Who writes the content and supplies the images?
  4. Which integrations are included, and which are extra?
  5. Is technical SEO included at build time?
  6. How long is post-launch support, and what does it cover?
  7. Do I own the code, design files and hosting credentials on final payment?
  8. Can my team edit content without a developer?

If a vendor will not answer question seven clearly, treat that as decisive. You should own what you paid for.

Frequently asked questions

A professional small-business website in India typically costs between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 50,000. That range covers a custom design, five to ten pages, mobile responsiveness, a contact form, basic SEO setup and one year of hosting and domain in most quotes.

An e-commerce website in India usually costs between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 3,00,000. The main cost drivers are the number of products, payment gateway and shipping integrations, whether you need multi-vendor support, and how much custom design work is involved.

Quotes vary because the word "website" covers everything from a five-page template site to a custom web application. The biggest cost drivers are custom design versus a theme, the number of unique page templates, third-party integrations, content and image creation, and how much post-launch support is included.

A very cheap website is worth it only if your needs are genuinely simple. Below roughly Rs. 15,000 you are usually getting a template with minimal customisation, no SEO foundation and no support. That is fine for a placeholder, but it often costs more to fix later than building it properly the first time.

Yes. Budget for domain renewal (roughly Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,500 a year), hosting (roughly Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 15,000 a year for most business sites), an SSL certificate (often free), and optional maintenance. Maintenance plans in India typically run from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 10,000 a month depending on how much changes.
